For Onyx, it is a very happy new year indeed. We are thirty years old and have decided to celebrate. As a birthday present to ourselves, we have commissioned some fabulous new music for brass. The year starts with us recording these for the NMC label and then our concerts will feature them as the year goes on. We are very grateful for the Ambache Trust, JAM and the RV-W Trust for their support in helping us commission these wonderful new additions to the repertoire. Below is a schedule highlighting when things are planned. Please note that we are seeing our visit to the Royal Academy of Music is our official birthday so if you would like to celebrate with us after (as well as during) the concert, then you do not want to miss it.
We have also decided to use this year to attempt to raise money for the Royal Society of Musicians. We will be asking all venues to allow us to do a retiring collection in aid of the RSM. We will also be sending a proportion of our income from CD sales this year direct to the RSM. It is a worthy cause which helps musicians whose lives have suddenly changed and they can no longer either temporarily or permanently earn their living through music.
For our premieres and concerts, please see what’s happening below. New commissions by Charlotte Harding, Simon Dobson and Emily Hall have already been premiered but will be appearing over the year too.
Keep in touch with us on FB, Twitter and Instagram and we hope to see you soon.
